UB to require COVID-19 vaccination to attend sports games and cultural events

(WIVB) – The UB will require people attending sports games and cultural events at college to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination.

The university announced the new rule on Monday. It will come into effect in October.

The rule will apply to football matches at UB Stadium, men’s and women’s basketball matches at Alumni Arena, and events at Slee Hall and the Center for the Arts and Alumni Arena, including the Distinguished Speakers Series. and the Class of 2020 launching ceremony on October 1.

A vaccination card, photo of a vaccination card, Excelsior pass or digital vaccination card will work for admission, and participants should also be prepared to show photo identification.

“We believe this is in the best interest of the community,” said Michael E. Cain, vice president of health sciences and dean of the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. “The cases of COVID-19 in the region have continued to increase. We want to be proactive and make sure that we are doing our part to prevent the spread of the virus. “

Masks will no longer be required when spectators are outside at UB Stadium with the new policy. Masks will still be required in indoor locations at UB Stadium. Masks will be mandatory at all times when participating in events inside the Alumni Arena, the Arts Center and the Slee Hall.

Children under 12 who are not vaccinated will be admitted to UB events, but must be masked at all times at all UB sites.

According to a press release released by the college on Monday, 99% of UB students are vaccinated.
