Ginebra-Meralco Game 4 the biggest sporting crowd of the pandemic

Game 4 of the PBA Season 46 Governors Cup Final between Barangay Ginebra and Meralco drew the biggest crowd on Wednesday at any sporting event during the pandemic.

A total of 17,298 spectators turned up at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum on Holy Wednesday, eclipsing the 16,104 spectators in attendance for Game 3 of the series of seven at the Mall of Asia Arena.

It also shattered the previous pandemic record of 16,687 which was seen in the second game of the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) open conference semi-finals between Creamline and Choco Mucho, and Cignal against Petro Gazz on April 3.


Ginebra’s popularity and the upcoming holidays due to Holy Week helped draw crowds to an evening that saw Justin Brownlee and Scottie Thompson take home the awards for Best Import and Best Conference Player, respectively.
