FRENCH CITY, Mont. – As National Fishing and Boating Week draws to a close, Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks is coming out with a bang. They are partnering with The Trail Head store in Missoula to showcase paddle sports.
Together they put the Large paddle at Frenchtown Pond State Park on Saturday June 12 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
It is an opportunity that makes it easier for people to try out paddle sports for free. Participants will be able to safely try out different equipment with expert help and learn about sports before they jump in and buy or rent equipment.
They will have things like kayaks and paddleboards to try out. When visitors are not on the water, they will be able to learn about paddle sports, fishing access sites and boating safety. There will be burgers, hot dogs and raffle prizes.
Jess Martin is an AmeriCorps member with Montana State Parks. She helped organize the event. She encourages all water lovers to get out there, regardless of their skill level. She shared that it was a great way to try paddling for the first time.
“For the equipment demonstration, we’re going to have river experts there to help people with the demonstration and make sure everyone is safe and having a great time,” Martin said.
She added that it would be a fun day to celebrate paddle sports, but also a chance to learn or brush up on safety on the water.
