A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP was caught on camera slapping a young wrestler at an event in Ranchi, Jharkhand on Saturday.

The incident occurred during the National Under-15 Wrestling Championship at the city’s Shaheed Ganpat Rai Indoor Stadium.

Brijbhushan MP Sharan Singh punched the youngster twice before he left the stage, according to a viral video.

Why is this story important?

The incident will cause embarrassment to the BJP which is busy preparing for the next round of state elections.

But this is not the first time that a senior politician has engaged in such behavior.

Just days ago, Union Minister Ajay Mishra was seen in a video rushing at a journalist and throwing insults when the journalist asked him about his imprisoned son.

What happened during the Ranchi event?

The wrestler in question was disqualified from the competition for having exceeded the event’s authorized age limit of 15 years.

However, he continued to insist that Singh allow him to participate and refused to leave the stage, after which the MP lost his temper and punched him.

Several wrestlers at the event protested Singh’s behavior and demanded an apology.
