Area school districts outline COVID-19 rules for sports games

HUNTSVILLE, Alabama – As fall school sports kick off, a number of school districts in the area are describing COVID-19 protocols they plan to put in place.

Huntsville City Schools says it is still ironing out its plans for any potential COVID-19 rules related to participating in the games.

Meanwhile, a number of school districts say they are relying on state athletic associations. During games at Decatur City Schools, Lincoln County Schools, Morgan County Schools, Lawrence County Schools, and Madison County Schools, this will be business as usual, with no limitation of crowd capacity or mask requirement.

Morgan County schools say those in crowds should take whatever precautions they deem appropriate. Schools in the city of Athens will encourage social distancing. Lawrence County schools also state that cheering gatherings must be outdoors and socially distanced. Schools in the town of Albertville will require masks for those attending the indoor games, but say this will not limit the capacity of the crowd.

News 19 has contacted several other school districts in the area and has yet to receive a response. Updates will be provided as they become available.
