A BJP MP punches a wrestler on stage at a sporting event. Netizens call it “the arrogance of power”

New Delhi: In extremely appalling conduct, Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) leader and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh slapped a young wrestler on Saturday during the Under-15 National Wrestling Championship in Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand.

The BJP MP from Kaiserganj Lok Sabha constituency in Uttar Pradesh slapped the over-aged young wrestler as he hesitated to take part in the championship.

It happened when the wrestler, who was reportedly barred from competing in the championship because he was over 15, got into an argument with the BJP MP when he came on stage.

Singh then lost his temper and slapped the Uttar Pradesh wrestler as he remained rigid and refused to leave the stage.

The BJP MP later came under heavy criticism for his behavior after video of the incident went viral on social media.

Several Twitter users condemned the MP’s behavior as “arrogance of power” and lambasted the ruling BJP.

“Indian wrestling association chief and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh slaps young wrestler. The young wrestler should have behaved with this rogue politician the same way he behaved with him. These idiots are high on the arrogance of power,” a Twitter user wrote on the microblogging platform.

“JHARKHAND: New shock from the BJP! Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, BJP MP and Chairman of the Indian Wrestling Federation, slaps a young wrestler on stage. Can a civil servant (BJP MP) bully the common man? What message is the BJP sending to the country? tweeted another.

Several wrestlers also expressed their anger at the behavior of the BJP MP and demanded an apology from him for his offensive act.
