Publishing giant 2K is teaming up with Lego to produce several sports games, including a football title slated for release later this year, according to a report from Video Games Chronicle.
Scheduled to launch around the start of this year’s FIFA World Cup, 2K’s next soccer game is said to be developed by Sumo Digital, which has already developed Repression 3, as well as numerous entries in the Sonic Racing franchise. So it’s somewhat ironic that 2K’s second Lego game is an open-world racing title developed by Visual Concepts, which itself has created several sports titles for 2K, including NBA 2K22 and WWE 2K22. The 2K Lego racing game is set to release in 2023. According to VGC sources, a third Lego sports game based on a major sports franchise is also in development.
These 2K Lego sports games are possible because the Lego Group is apparently not extending its agreement with TT Games and WB Games. Currently, TT Games is developing Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, although the development of the game was fraught with difficulties. The developer has also been behind every other successful Lego game franchise, including lego batman, lego cityand Lego Indiana Joness. Beyond The Skywalker SagaTT Games is said to have an additional Lego game in development, but it’s unclear if the developer will be able to work on Lego games after that.
If true, 2K’s gaming portfolio will only go from strength to strength as it becomes the only company with licensing rights to Lego games. It currently has two previously announced games coming out this year: The wonders of Tiny Tina and Marvel’s Midnight Suns.
